OUR PHILOSOPHY

To Restore Our Way of Life in Society According to One's Will

Non-Profit Organization ZAITAKU CARE Association
Executive director/President/Founder
Makoto TOYAMA, RN/Care-manager

In January 1988, we launched a movement to develop and disseminate Model for way of life in society not only for persons for whom making decisions for their life is easy but also for those who have handicaps and/or chronic diseases and who have long been denied expressions of opinions and views, who cannot easily ask for support and help, and/or for whom leading an active life is difficult.

In February 1992, we established HOME-CARE ASSOCIATION for PERSONS WITH CHRONIC DISEASES, and in November 1999, we re-organized the association as a non-profit organization called "ZAITAKU CARE Association" so that our clients could apply for coverage under the National Health Insurance and the Long-term Insurance for Elderly that was to be enforced in April 2000.

Model for way of life in society consists of three elements, three objectives, and three principles. The basic three elements are the presence of clients who want their living in society, a team of personal assistants to take part in others' living in society and socio-economic or administrative funding systems. Objectives are to restore the life-long developmental process of clients, their families, and the social care/support resources.

The first principle concerns the social energy sources of human beings. The second principle describes the energy balance of people, which is grounded on the direction of individual wills. The third principle explains concretely individuals' complex sense of values related to their value system.

In sum, a life style represents one's values, and decision-making requires social energy gains. To sustain the association of social energy sources, we need to build up family, to ask for non-family members' help, and to keep up with activities and participate in personal, familial and community work.s.

Let each and every of us restore our way of life in society according to one's will.

Abstract

Background: In 1972, a CP female patient began living at home in Tokyo while struggling to establish the team of personal assistants for her. In 1990, an ALS female in-patient chose an invasive-HMV in Tokyo, and succeeded in establishing substantial support by the managed crew/team of personal assistants. In 1994, the National Health Care Insurance began to subsidize the rental fee for use of respirators to hospitals for patients on HMV. (Presented in Melbourne, 2002) In 2000, Long-term Insurance for Elderly was started and in 2003 the administrative funding for service stations was implemented. (Presented in Milan, 2003 and in Philadelphia, 2004)

Objectives: One objective is to investigate the impact and magnitude of the public health care insurance on the economic products in the community and another is to evaluate the relationship between the activities of ALS/MND patients on PAV and their families and their participation in Tokyo.

Clinical Outcome: (To be published in the Allied Professionals' Forum Wed Nov.29 2006)

Programme Description: Using the telephone inquiry method, we questioned all the care/support service stations in every ward in Tokyo to determine whether they had had ALS/MND people on PAV the previous year. By mailing an inquiry to the stations enclosing another envelope containing questionnaires for ALS/MND people on PAV and their family.

Recommendation: Effects on GDP depend on the number of persons on PAV, the government policy and/or the administrative decision-makings as well as the availability of care/support services. If these conditions are met, persons on PAV not only in JAPAN but in ASEAN countries, EU countries, and America would be able to establish their activities and participate and contribute to GDP.
