Power Media has started accepting the preorders of The Untouchable, an upcoming Martial Arts fighting arcade game. Expected release date is mid- or late-August. The preordering price is $49.95 without shipping. Users outside USA should quote for shipping charge.
[USA] Myth, The Fallen Lords 1.3b2 Updater Posted
Bungie Software Products posted the beta updater of Myth, The Fallen Lords 1.3b2. Version 1.3 features the new plug-in architecture to use .gor files without any modification, as well as the anticipated Bodycount game fixes and improvements (more info). Updater size is 1.3 MB.
[USA] Aspyr Media Changes Release Date of Tomb Raider II to October, Preorder Available Now
Aspyr Media has changed the release date of upcoming Tomb Raider II to October rather than December formerly announced. Tomb Raider II (developer: Core Design, PC version publisher: Eidos Interactive, porter: Westlake Interactive) is the second installment of 3D exploration action game where player, as a woman explorer Lara, searches Great Wall of China for an artifact while fighting various enemies. It features a lot of action scenes such as climbing up walls, wading in underwater, and fighting by powerful weapons. Also features high quality graphics using 3D accelerator. Aspyr Media is accepting preorders now for $49.95.
[USA] Snood Updated to 2.1
David McCullough Dobson has updated Snood to version 2.1. Snood is a Puzzle Bobble-type cannon shooting puzzle arcade game where player shoots humorous icons called Snoods and drops them by matching up three or more of them. Version 2.1 features the Journey mode to play through Easy level to Evil level and Just One More mode to quit the application after the last one play. The latest version also allows Puzzle mode players to save the games at any time during the play. [USA] Power Media Officially Announced The Untouchable
Power Media officially announced the upcoming release of The Untouchable. The Untouchable is a realistic Martial Arts fighting arcade game developed by Creative Edge Software. It features smoothly animated graphics with fast response, realistic techniques/motions captured from real-world martial artists, and a variety of characters with unique fighting styles. Creative Edge Software said they added a lot of new features since first announced in April; more characters, more music, more graphics, and more play modes such as "Double Trouble" (1 vs. 2 ) mode.
Also, Power Media opens an information page of The Untouchable. Although there are few things on the page, more information about the release date, demo status, and the preorder will be posted there. Expected release date is mid- or late-August.

[USA] MacSoft Releases Lode Runner 2 on September 15
MacSoft releases Lode Runner 2 on September 15. Lode Runner 2 is, developed by Presage Software, a much advanced sequel to Lode Runner, a popular classic 2D arcade game. The sequel features more complex stages of five different 3D worlds, high quality 3D graphics, 75 levels with 6-directional scrolling, more advanced enemies with dynamic AI, and up to 8 players game. [USA] X-Plane Updated to 4.12
Laminar Research has updated X-Plane, a comprehensive civilian flight simulator, to version 4.12. Version 4.12 features improved CH Product's joystick support, program optimizations, and other improvements/fixes. Demo size is 22.6 MB (more info), upgrade file from 3.x is 20.8 MB (more info). If you already have version 4.1.x upgrade file, you can download 4.1.x to 4.12 updater file (6.3 MB).

[Japan] AQUAZONE Power Updater GUPPY to be Released September 18
OPeNBooK 9003* releases "AQUAZONE Power Updater GUPPY BREEDING SET*" on September 18. GUPPY BREEDING SET is an upgrade kit and add-on breeds set for AQUAZONE, a popular tropical fish breeding simulation software. SwordLord has released Mildew. Mildew is a classic-style side-scrolling 2D arcade game where player, as a friendly beast, explores the 2D world by running and jumping while collecting foods and avoiding enemies. [USA] Java-based Checker-like Board Game "Fanorona"
David Eppstein has released Fanorona. Fanorona is a traditional board game like checker that comes from Madagascar. The player moves a piece to "eat" a contiguous group of opposing pieces by pushing or pulling them. The computer version of Fanorona is Java-based and played by one player against the computer opponent. File size is 435 KB. Requires MRJ 2.0. Freeware. Also, a Java applet version of Fanorona is available on their Web page.
[Japan] Japanese Phonetic Word Game "Otoju 0.71"
Takehiko Inoue has released Otoju 0.71*. Otoju is a unique Japanese phonetic word game where player rearranges shuffled pronunciation segments to form a word. Also included is an editor to create new word lists. Users who created a word list can send it to the author for forthcoming version. File size is 442 KB*. Requires HyperCard 2.2 or later. Freeware but users must send a mail to the author. Japnese software.

[Japan] Interactive Music Constructor "AudioRom" Released in Japan
DIGITALOGUE* has released "AudioRom interactive music ShiftControl*" in Japan. AudioRom (UK publisher: Research Publishing) is a sampler-style interactive music construction software created by AudioRom, London-based creators group. The player constructs music from a lot of sound clips using the mouse or the keyboard on 14 visual interfaces called "Visual Samplers". It is an Enhanced CD which can be played also on a usual music CD player. Recommends PowerPC/60 MHz or faster. Requires System 7.5 or later (playable on English System), RAM 16 MB or larger, free memory 8 MB or larger, 640 x 480/256 colors or better, CD-ROM 2x or faster, QuickTime 2.1 or later. INTERPROG* has released Japanese version of Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time*. Legacy of Time (developer: Presto Studios, USA publisher: Red Orb Entertainment) is an adventure game with a theme of time travel and historical exploration featuring excellent story and elaborate puzzles. The latest version also features improved user interface, 360-digree first person perspective graphics, and cinematic movie scenes. [Japan] Another Train Simulator "Tetsudo Unten Simulation: Tobu Spacia"
Shogakukan Production* has released "Tetsudo Unten Simulation: Tobu Spacia*". It is another train simulator series for Macintosh where player drives an express train on schedule within speed limits along the way. Requires PowerPC, Japanese System 7.1 or later, RAM 24 MB or larger, HD 20 MB or larger, 640 x 480/256 colors or better, CD-ROM 2x or faster (4x or faster recommended), QuickTime 2.1 or later. [USA] 10 Employees Leave from Blizzard Entertainment to Start New Developer
According to Next-Generation Online, 10 employees including StarCraft's producer James Phinney resign from Blizzard Entertainment to start new developer. Blizzard Entertainment said that the departures may affect the development schedule for upcoming Warcraft II Platinum in the short-term, but may not affect other projects. [World] Unique Breakthrough-Type Arcade "Rotate"
Tim Williamson has released Rotate. Rotate is a Breakthrough-type arcade game where player smashes blocks by rotating the enclosed square instead of a paddle. There are several colors of blocks with various durabilities and black one takes away one life when hit. File size is 116 KB. Freeware.
Followup: As of August 17, Rotate has been updated to 1.1.
[USA] Starship Titanic to Release in October
Simon & Schuster Interactive announced that they release anticipated Starship Titanic in October. Starship Titanic is a sci-fi comical adventure game by Douglas Adams of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". The player accidentally takes aboard a luxurious space ship in distress that comes from an unknown star system, and must solve many mysteries by exploration and conversation with various humorous robot crews. Knowble Design and Power Media has released aGORA. aGORA is a networkable 3D fantasy strategic action role playing game. It seems to be something imitating Myth, but exploring and fighting in the game is based on a main playable character named a "runner". Also, the game play is more tactical thanks to the circular nature of the map called Globes, the complex terrain to affect strategy, and a variety of items and magic spells. Requires PowerPC (80 MHz or faster recommended), System 7.5 or later, free memory 16 MB or larger, free HD 30 MB or larger, 640 x 480/32,000 colors or better. Demo size is 39.3 MB (more info). [USA] Starbound II Updated to 0.95, All Six Race Files Finally Released
Catfish Software has updated Starbound II to version 0.95. Starbound II is a networkable strategic space conquest game which has various features including space battle, ground battle, colony development, diplomacy, and many others. Version 0.95 includes many fixes and improvements such as the new AI agent to help colonization. Also, the all six race files have finally been released with the latest version (more info). Currently, only PowerPC version is available and 68K version is coming soon. File size is 8.1 MB (more info). Shareware $20.

[Japan] Fantasy Weapon Encyclopedia "Deeds of Arms" to be Released on September 11
GAINAX releases "Deeds of Arms*" on September 11. Deeds of Arms is an encyclopedia of over 100 weapons used in medieval Europe or fantasy world. It features 3D graphics and narration about each weapon. The CD-ROM contains English version as well as Japanese one. Hybrid CD-ROM.

Brad Quick has updated Dirt Bike to version 4.3. Dirt Bike is a 2D side-scrolling motorcycle racing arcade game. It features the high-paced action with the quick scrolling, the course editor, the multiple windows, and flexible competitors settings that allow to play against the computer and Internet opponents. KzGomoku is a Japanese traditional board game called "Renju" or "Goban" where two players put tokens alternately to arrange 5 tokens in a line. It features very strong computer routine. Ambrosia Software shipped Ambrosia CD. It is a shareware collection CD-ROM contains Ambrosia's shareware titles and all add-ons posted on their Web site. BigFishLittleFish Software has released Nuts And Bolts. Nuts And Bolts is a unique 2D arcade game starring a little roller-skating robot. The player controls the humorous robot to collect nuts and bolts in the screen while avoiding enemy robots or smashing them by jumping onto them. File size is 648 KB (available on the Info-Mac). [USA] Big Time Software Releases Advanced Squad Leader with the New Name "Combat Mission"
Big Time Software was developing the computer version of Advanced Squad Leader in cooperation with Avalon Hill, but they have canceled the cooperation and continued the project under the new name "Combat Mission". Combat Mission is a turn-based tactical combat simulation game set in Europe at the World War II. It features the 3D graphical view to play like as miniatures. However, the most important feature is NOT that flashy appearance, but the accurate simulation dedicated for serious and experienced war game players with much advanced tactical skills. Currently, no information about the supported platforms, but Big Time Software clarified the Macintosh support of the game in previous announce of this project.
[Italy] PacMac Deluxe Updated to 1.2
DAPPSoft has updated PacMac Deluxe to version 1.2. PacMac Deluxe is a PacMan-style arcade game featuring the humorous characters, the radical voice effects/music, a variety of many levels, the level editor. Version 1.2 features Mac OS 8 support, added 800 new levels, and automatic display mode switching as well as fixes a crashing bug on certain machines. File size is 1.9 MB (more info). MacSoft announced the release of Deer Hunter that has already sold at Expo NY. Deer Hunter is a hunting simulation game that provides realistic scenery and thrilling hunting experience with various weapons, locations, and situations. [Japan] The Tower II 640 x 480 Mode Fixed File Posted
OPeNBooK 9003* has posted The Tower II 640 x 480 mode fixed file*. It is a set of small data files for The Tower II* users with a display 640 x 480 only who are encountered a trouble in using the Control Palette. The files should be used at starting the game by opening one of them instead of choosing "New" command. File size is 22 KB* (more info*). Users who have a display larger than 640 x 480 or who don't have any trouble don't have to download it.

[UK] Creatures 2 Announced
CyberLife Technology announced that Creatures 2 will be released for Macintosh. Creatures 2 is a sequel to the virtual life simulation "Creatures" where player breeds intelligent creatures named Norns. The sequel features a more advanced artificial life technology, a new advanced breed, and a new virtual world. Also, the performance will be much improved over the current Creatures. At first, there was no plan to develop Creatures 2 for Macintosh, but the demand of current Mac Creature users and Apple's new consumer products changed their decision. Expected to be released in Q4 1998 or Q1 1999.

Factor Software has updated BOOM, a Bomberman-style 2D arcade game, to version 1.1.2. Version 1.1.2 fixes a bug causing occasional freezes on certain machines. Full version size is 3.0 MB. Updater (from 1.1 or 1.1.1) size is 1.1 MB. Shareware $15.
[Japan] Japanese Traditional Fair-Stall Game "Yo-Yo Tsuri"
Dream Garden Software* has released "Yo-Yo Tsuri*". "Yo-Yo Tsuri", meaning "Catching Balloons", is an arcade game based on a Japanese traditional fair-stall game. Player hooks small balloon called "Yo-Yo" from a tank. The hook is so weak that the player must move it up carefully. File size is 360 KB*. Freeware. Japanese Software.

Semicolon Software has been updated Solitaire Till Dawn to version 3.3. Solitaire Till Dawn is a collection of solitaire card games with over 30 games. It features sophisticated user interface and various help options called "Card Shark". Version 3.3 adds the game "Mantana" and adds the new "Game ID" feature to replay the game by entering ID number. But I found something wrong with the "New Game by ID..." command; you had better choose the "New Game" command every time before choosing the "New Game by ID..." command. File size is 1.1 MB. [World] Pattern Recognition Game "MindThump"
Stairways Software has released MindThump 1.0. MindThump is a mind game where player chooses as many sets of 3 symbols in a certain rule as possible. The 3 symbols must be same or all different in colors/shapes/shading/count. The rule and the game play are somewhat complex, but the software provides the Practice Board to learn the game. File size is 617 KB. Shareware $15.

psd* has released "Tatakau Salary Man*" and "Tatakau OL*". They are a humorous board-style role playing game where player, as an office worker (a working man in "Tatakau Salary Man", a working woman in "Tatakau OL"), manages daily work and living and increases various parameters to get awarded five honorable titles. [USA] Elysium Digital to Demonstrate Grimoire at Expo NY
Elysium Digital will demonstrate the latest beta version of Grimoire at MACWORLD Expo NY held from July 8 to July 10 in New York. Grimoire is an orthodox classical-3D role playing game with the large-scaled world and many features. Booth #2017. Elysium Digital will also demonstrate their 2D side-scrolling helicopter shooting Cobra Gunship at the booth and will also feature it in the National Macintosh Gaming Championship.

[Japan] Interactive Digital Art "ClusterWorks" Released
VOYAGER JAPAN* has released ClusterWorks. ClusterWorks is a collection of interactive digital art programs some of which was sold at MACWORLD Expo/Tokyo. It is the latest installment of OnScreen Art Project, the works of excellent interactive digital art by Hisashi Hoda*. ClusterWorks shows fantastic screen activities of cluster of fine light dots forming various figures, as well as fantastic music phrases, according to the mouse movement. It consists 5 modules; Star Burst, Comet, Tunnel, Star Dust, and Stupa. Demo size is 288 KB*. Requires PowerPC, free memory 5 MB or larger, Japanese System 7.5 or better (also works fairly well under English System), 640 x 480/256 or better, QuickTime 2.5 or later (QuickTime 3 recommended). Available as hybrid CD-ROM at retail stores in Japan.
[USA] Ambrosia Software to Announce New Products at Expo NY
Ambrosia Software will announce their new products at MACWORLD Expo NY held from July 8 to July 10 in New York. The products they will announce are their first Ambrosia CD-ROM and several in-development games.
