[USA] Best of IMG 1993-97 CD-ROM Released
The most popular CD-ROM based Macintosh game magazine Inside Mac Games (IMG) has released Best of IMG 1993-79 CD-ROM. The CD-ROM contains back issues of IMG dating from 1993 to 1997, demos, sharewares, and interviews. Available directly from IMG site for $14.95 ($9.95 for IMG subscribers).
[USA] Shanghai: Dynasty Demo Posted
Mach One* reported that Gamecenter.com posted Shanghai: Dynasty demo. Shanghai: Dynasty (publisher: Activision) is the fourth installment of well-known Mah Jong tile puzzle series, Shanghai. The latest installment features up-to-four player game against computer AIs and two player game via Internet as well as various tile sets and games. Although Internet play and auto shuffle are not functional in the demo version, several games including playing against AIs are playable. Demo size is 9.8 MB (more info). Requires PowerPC, QuickTime, Sound Manager 3.1 or later. Full version is available now in retail stores.
[Japan] Collaboration RPG "Summoners' Party: Second Summoning" Updated to v1.10
Ambitious Soft* has updated "Summoners' Party: Second Summoning*" to version v1.10. It is a unique trading cards-style Java 3D dungeon role playing game where player must summon fighting characters from cards in hand. It also features collaboration where a player must form the party using other players' own characters. Version v1.10 adds several modification such as added new characters and changed some enemy parties. File size is 740 KB*. PowerPC recommended. Requires Japanese Mac OS 8 or Japanese System 7.5 along with MRJ 1.5.x, 256 colors or better. The software now become shareware for ¥500. Players must read Japanese manual and messages.
[USA] STRiKE Liberation Posted New Mission Set "Desert Kings"
STRiKE Software has posted "Desert Kings" on the STRiKE Liberation site. It is a mission set for F/A-18 Korea which is a replacement for the standard Nevada network theatre including play 6 missions for solo play. File size is 154 KB. 3Dfx is strongly recommended for the excellent desert texture. Only for registered STRiKE Software users (needs password to extract the archive).
[USA] QuickTime 3 Finally Released
Apple Computer has finally released QuickTime 3. QuickTime 3 features new music instruments module supporting GM/GS Format, that benefits game softwares using QuickTime for background music. It also includes various new codecs/formats and other various new features. File Size is 6.4 MB (MacBinary) or 8.7 MB (BinHex). Freeware.
Also released is QuickTime 3 Pro, which includes authoring support and powerful features. Upgrade from QuickTime 3 to Pro costs $29.99 per machine.

Logicware has released ASTROROCK 2000. It is the sequel of ASTROROCK, the Rock-grooved Asteroid-style 2D shooting arcade game, featuring upgraded graphics such as excellent background and translucent cockpit. Also features several powerful new weapons. Available in hybrid CD-ROM directly from Logicware for $29.95.
[Canada] Asshole Updated to Version 1.0.6
Sean Munro has updated Asshole to version 1.0.6. Asshole is up-to 7 player card game also named "President". It features networkability via AppleTalk or Internet and a chat box using Speech Manager. Version 1.0.6 fixes several bugs such as "all Aces" bug at joining in the middle of a game and chat box-related bugs, as well as supports resizing of chat box. File size 1.3 MB. Requires 68020 or better, System 7.0 or better, RAM 2.5 MB or larger, free HD 2 MB or larger, 640 x 480 256 colors or better. Freeware.

[World] Bubbles Updated to 1.2. Ranking Page Opened
Chunga-Changa has updated Bubbles to version 1.2. Bubbles is a board-based puzzle game where player must assemble similar balls in a line from 8 kinds of balls some of which are placed on the field in every turn. Version 1.2 supports the new World Wide Bubbles Competition page to enter the high score on the page. File size is 861 KB. Requires PowerPC, Mac OS 7.6.1. Shareware $10.
[USA] STRiKE Liberation Posted SA-2E 'Guideline' tests Mission
STRiKE Software has STRiKE Liberation site for some F/A-18 Korea missions and posted a new mission "SA-2E 'Guideline' tests". It is a simple experimental mission set where player try to attack SA-2E by HARM. Also included are replay files of the missions. File size is 10 KB. No password is needed (may be freeware).
Also in development by STRiKE Software is Desert Kings mission set.

[Japan] Data CD-ROM of Japanese Anime "KEY" Including Interactive RPG
Young Corporation has released "KEY THE METAL IDOL COLLECTOR FILE Vol. 2". KEY THE METAL IDOL COLLECTOR FILE is a series of data CD-ROM of Japanese anime "KEY THE METAL IDOL", which features an interactive browser of almost all scenes, scripts, and related references from the anime. Vol. 2 of the series contains data from episode 14 and 15 (last episode) as well as an interactive role playing game to train "KEY" for a top idol star. Available as Hybrid CD-ROM at shops in Japan. Player must read and hear Japanese.
The anime series "KEY THE METAL IDOL" (Studio Pierrot*/PONYCANYON*) is based on a sci-fi story around a mysterious girl "KEY" who think herself as a robot. The elaborate story involves the intrigue of a huge munitions company, mysterious history of robot science, uneasy and lonesome urban life of the young, and sufferings of people living today. USA version of the anime series also available from Viz Communications.
[World] Ghost Extermination Arcade Game "Ghostrunner"
Jim DeVona has released Ghostrunner. It is a simple 2D arcade game where player gets rid of as many ghosts by running into them from behind as possible in one minute. Some technique is required to run faster and effective use of hills and walls leads to higher score. File size is 87 KB. Freeware.
[USA] Realmz Updated to 5.0.5
Fantasoft has updated Realmz to version 5.0.5. Version 5.0.5 changes equipments for Berzerker and adds Aging and Youth portions as well as fixes several bugs such as victory points bug and stamina parameter bug. Realmz Character Editor also is updated to version 5.0.5. Updater (5.0.x to 5.0.5) size is 354 KB.

[Japan] A&P CO-ORDINATOR JAPAN Started Online Distribution of Kids' Software
A&P CO-ORDINATOR JAPAN started online distribution* of their kids' software series "The gardens for children*". The gardens for children is bunch of animation stories and games by seven popular artists. Though only few works are available now, more works will be available for download. For payment, it uses BitCash Kids* prepaid card. Parents purchases a BitCash card at a book shop or a CD shop in advance and give it to their child. The child can select software to download and enters its serial code at the downloading. BitCash Kids system is already used by various contents distributors in Japan. Parents don't have to worry that their child uses their card number without permission or that their child purchases undesirable contents.

[Japan] Floriculture Simulation Software is Exhibited at Japan Flower & Garden Show
Sony Music Entertainment exhibits their "Rose on your desktop*" at Japan Flower & Garden Show held 3/27 (Fri) through 3/29 (Sun) in Makuhari Messe, Chiba Japan. "Rose on your desktop" is a realistic floriculture and hybridization simulation of roses featuring real time 3D graphics using QuickDraw 3D, hybridizable 7 species, accurate simulation based on real weather data. In their booth (565), the software is exhibited for hands on. Also available for sale (¥5,800). The CD-ROM contains both English and Japanese versions.
Entrance charge for the show is ¥700. The show is mainly for gardening and floriculture products/works and it is rare to exhibit a computer software there.
[USA] Hearts Deluxe 5.0 Released
Freeverse Software has released Hearts Deluxe 5.0. Hearts Deluxe is an excellent Hearts card game featuring PlainTalk talking/recognition, various opponent sets, tutorials for beginners, etc. Version 5.0 supports 32,000 colors and adds cheating options. File size is 2.8 MB. Shareware $19.95 (+$10 for CD-ROM).
[USA] Mouse Extermination Arcade Game "CatchMouse"
D F Curran Productions has released CatchMouse. It is an arcade game where player as an exterminator must get rid of mice strategically by setting traps. File size is 813 KB. Requires 68030 or better. Shareware $5. (Source: MacUpdate.com)
[World] New Edition of "The Nardo Mapmaking Tools and Guide"
Nardo posted new edition of "The Nardo Mapmaking Tools and Guide". It is a map making kit for Tempus Irae, a large-scaled add-on for Marathon Infinity, contains Nardo Forge updater and Nardo Map Making Tools Guide. The new edition includes bug-fixed Nardo Forge updater. File size is 1.2 MB. It requires Tempus Irae as well as Marathon Infinity to play a created map. Maybe freeware.
Borzz, the chief of Nardo, has released his Tempus Irae net map "Stonehenge!". File size of the map is 29 KB. He is also working on upcoming Tempus Irae net map, Alcatrazz.

Monkey Byte Development posted Jr. Bill Hunter Demo. Jr. Bill Hunter is an Asteroid-type omnidirectional shooting game featuring mission oriented game play, smooth scrolling land graphics, and bombing. [Belgium] 2D Version of Rubik's Cube? Final Version of Enigmatic Movement Released
Jochen De Schepper has released final version of Enigmatic Movement. Enigmatic Movement is, could be called "2D version of Rubik's Cube", a puzzle game where player must match the colored tiles by sliding row or column of grids. [USA] Divinity 1.0.5 Updater and Realmz Character Editor 5.0 Updater Released
While the storm of Realmz updates continues, Fantasoft has released updater for Divinity 1.0.5 and Realmz Character Editor 5.0.

Divinity is a scenario development kit for fantasy role playing games using their Realmz world, whose scenarios are played with Divine Right included in the package. Version 1.0.5 adds various enhanced features below:

-- A Land Tile Editor to modify or create land pattern.
-- "Use LOS" option to apply the "Line of Sight" rules to the entire land
-- Bunch of new codes to add new functions
-- Other improvements

Realmz Character Editor 5.0 is a character editor for Realmz 5.0.x and Divine Right that allows to create or edit playable characters in the games. Updater size is 232 KB. Demo version is included in Realmz 5.0.x . Requires full version 4.2.1 or 4.3.2. Full CD version is available directly from Fantasoft for $10.

[Japan] Computer Training Software for Young Children Featuring Popular Anime Character
PONYCANYON* has shipped "Nontan-no Pa-Pi-Pu-Pe Paso-Com! 1*". It is a self-training software for young children featuring an anime character "Nontan", a little funny cat popular among Japanese young children. In the software, children can learn mouse operation while playing with Nontan. Also bundled is "Nontan-no Print Asobi", a paper craft software. Requires 68040/33 MHz or better, Japanese System 7.5 or later, free memory 8 MB or larger, 680 x 480/256 colors or better. Available at retail stores in Japan or directly from PONNYCANYON for ¥4,800. Children are required to understand Japanese speech, or parents must help children to understand how to play.
[USA] QuakeWorld Officially Announced. Also GL Quake Updete in Progress
Westlake Interactive officially announced they has begun the port of QuakeWorld. QuakeWorld is a head-to-head play only version of Quake, popular 3D first person shooting, which is optimized for Internet play via modem. No release date is given. Maybe freeware.
Westlake also said they are working on GL Quake update to the latest version. The updater is to be released "fairly soon".

[Japan] YOU DON'T KNOW JACK to be Localized for Japan
Mach One* reported that Osaka-based major comedian office Yoshimoto Kogyo* is working on YOU DON'T KNOW JACK Japanese edition. The Japanese edition features not only Japanese translation but also totally localized content. Also features the Japanese most famous comedian "Hama-chan" as the host of the game, who is also directly involved in the creative process. STRiKE Software has released Early Raiders scenario. Early Raiders is an add-on scenario for F/A-18 Korea where player must carry out a mission to lead two F-18 formation and to avoid a bombing raid of North Korea Air Force targeting the bridges. [Japan] Jingle Cats CD-ROM Released
Sony Music Entertainment has released "Jingle Cats: Aito Yujono Neko Monogatari, Love Para Daisakusen*". It is an interactive role playing game based on the popular "Jingle Cats*" series of mewing songs by Mike Spalla and his cats. In the game, player breeds and takes care of house cats and makes lovely couple from them. When the mating gets successful, Jingle Cats will perform one of their new songs. Requires PowerPC, Japanese System 7.5 or later (compatible with Mac OS 8), free memory 12 MB or larger, 640 x 480/256 colors, CD-ROM 2x or faster. [World] Pax Imperia: Eminent Domain Updated to Version 1.06
Heliotrope Studios has updated Pax Imperia: Eminent Domain, a sequel to popular space conquest game Pax Imperia, to version 1.06. Version 1.06 fixes the Mac to PC network problems as well as changes several game conditions of combat scene. Saved games and custom species from earlier versions are not compatible with the new version. Updater files for PowerPC 601 (786 KB), 603 (790 KB), 604 (791 KB), 750 (791 KB) are offered respectively. Also language patches and voice data for non-English languages such as French and German are available. The Spanish language patch is a new addition. [USA] Blaster II Updated to 1.1. Developer Changes their Name to "Transtemporal Technology"
Transtemporal Technology (previous name: Omnisoft) has updated their Blaster II to version 1.1. Blaster II is humorously styled 2D shooting arcade game featuring unique characters/weapons and fast pace action. Version 1.1 fixes several bugs. File size is 5.1 MB. Requires RAM 4 MB or larger, free HD 6.6 MB or larger, 640 x 480/256 colors or better. Shareware $10.
The developer has changed their name to Transtemporal Technology from Omnisoft on 3/20. They are working on new 2D shooting game Blazer and its Bolt 2D sprite engine for spring release.

[USA] Stone Entertainment Posted "UFO Demo"
Stone Entertainment, known for upcoming 3D flight shooting Scrap Metal, posted UFO Demo. It is a demonstration software for their SERGE (Stone Entertainment's Real-time Graphics Engine) which will be adopted to Scrap Metal. Although it is simple software where merely UFO's flying in the night sky, it demonstrates excellent real time 3D effects such as Gouraud shading and lens flares only by software. The engine consumes much processor power and shows only poor flame rate on low end machine, but shows fair flame rate when the number of the UFOs is reduced to 1 or so. File size is 369 KB. Requires PowerPC.
In related news, Mach One* recently reported that Scrap Metal will support ATI 3D cards as well as Power3D. Stone Entertainment also officially announced that it will supports ATI's 3D cards, Techworks Power3D, other 3DFX cards, and even builtin 3D processors.

[World] Survival Simulation Game "Beached 1.2"
Marcus Boxall has updated his Beached to version 1.2. Beached is a survival simulation game where player must survive in a small tropical island while building boat to escape before a hurricane comes. It is simple and takes only a few minutes to play, but requires efficient and strategic game play since the game condition is so strict. Version 1.2 fixes a bug at window resizing. File size is 281 KB. 68020 or better, System 7.0 or later, 256 colors or better. Freeware.
[USA] Stress Receptacle Software "Peter Punchinbag"
Rancid Tomato has released Peter Punchinbag. It is a stress receptacle software where user attacks Peter the human punchinbag in various ways. File size for 68K is 1.5 MB, for PowerPC is 1.6 MB. Requires 68020 or better, 256 colors or better. Shareware $5.
[Japan] Fujitsu Parex Site Renewed
Although Fujitsu is the Japanese most major DOS machine maker, its software division, Fujitsu Parex*, published many Mac compatible entertainment softwares.
Fujitsu Parex recently renewed their site*. The new site features a title search engine*. Also in the site is a fortunetelling page* featuring their popular software titles, Eberouge* and Sekaino Shasokara*, as well as a page to find the proper software titles* based on a simple psychological test. Sorry the site is Japanese only.
[Sweden] Daydream Software Working on Traitors Gate
Daydream Software, known for adventure game Safecracker, is now working on Traitors Gate. It also is an adventure game to feature realistic graphics yet more than Safecracker. In the game, player as a great thief must steal a valuable treasure rigidly protected for 500 years. No more information about release date and platform is given yet.
[USA] Sokoban Updated to 2.4
Scott Lindhurst has updated his Sokoban to version 2.4. Sokoban is a clone version of Japanese most popular puzzle game of the same name* (developer: Thinking Rabbit, publisher: Itochu*). As contrasted with the original, the clone doesn't contain built-in level editor, but features over 400 levels, drag and drop import/export of text level data, and various keyboard shortcuts. Version 2.4 adds sound support and new undo shortcuts. File size is 204 KB. Requires System 6.0.7 or later (Mac OS 8 supported). Freeware.

[Japan] PlayStation Image Viewer "TimOpen" Updated to 1.3
STUDIO SHIN* has updated their PlayStation image viewer, TimOpen*, to version 1.3. TimOpen allows to view TIM files, the standard image format for PlayStation game console, and convert them to PICT files. Version 1.3 adds support for multi palette of TIM file. File size 93 KB*. Requires 68040 or better, Japanese System 7.1 or later, free memory 2 MB or larger, 256 colors (32,000 colors recommended). Freeware.
I confirmed that it works well under English Mac OS except miscoded text in menus and other dialogs. Operation of this software itself is fairly simple so that non-Japanese users can use it.
[World] ShoqWave Started Mailing Service "ShoqScoop"
ShoqWave Multimedia Productions has started a mailing list service named "ShoqScoop". ShoqWave Multimedia Productions is working on two upcoming graphic adventures, Portal and Midnight, and posting their screenshots often. ShoqScoop is to announce such updates on their site. [USA] Gridz NetConnect Page Opened
Green Dragon Creations has officially opened Gridz NetConnect page to announce a game of Gridz or to find announced games. Gridz is a cyber strategy game where player commands micro robots named "Toolbots" in order to conquer the cyber space called "Net Space". It also features up to 8 players netplay. Player now can gather players by posting the domain name of the host and the time to play, as well as look up hosts in the list. Go to GRIDZ Outposter page for posting to or searching the list. Users of versions earlier than 1.1 should get Net Gridz updater (1.5 MB).
[UK] Carmageddon 3Dfx Patch Posted
Techworks posted Carmageddon 3Dfx Patch. Carmageddon (developer: SCi) is a 3D racing arcade game with violence and cruelty, whose 3Dfx patch is long anticipated since Expo SF. The patch allows smoother graphics and faster frame rate, especially on lower end PowerPC systems. US version (820 KB) and German version (820 KB) are available.
Drag the Carmageddon 3Dfx application into same folder as original Carmageddon application (don't delete the original application), and "smoke.pix" file into Pixelmap folder. Launch the Carmageddon 3Dfx application to play. There is no technical support available for the patches from Techworks, Aspyr Media or SCi.
Followup: As of 3/19, Techworks site is too crowded to download smoothly now. Mac Gaming Alliance has a mirror of the US patch (1.1 MB).

Ambrosia Software has updated Mars Rising to version 1.0.1. Mars Rising is a Xevious-like 2D forward scrolling shooting arcade game featuring various power-ups and cool BGMs. Version 1.0.1 includes several game improvement and bug fixes such as desktop icon repositioning bug at screen switching on Mac OS 8. Also supports InputSprocket now, that allows more flexible control assignment, for example the mouse for Player 1 and a joystick for Player 2. File size 4.7 MB. Requires PowerPC (PowerPC 601/80 MHz, PowerPC 603/100 MHz or better recommended), System 7.5.5 or later, free memory 7.4 MB or larger, 640 x 480/256 colors or better, Sound Manager 3.1 or later. [Japan] Model Train Simulator "Dream Express" Updated to 1.2
Dream Garden Software* has updated Dream Express* to version 1.2. Dream Express is a simple 3D model train simulator where users can view running train from various perspectives. Version 1.2 allows users to edit and create track layouts. Although the editor is not so sophisticated one, 3D camera view allows to view working layout in realtime. Also added other features such as window resizing and rail noise sound. File size is 412 KB*. Requires PowerPC, Japanese System 7.5 or later, QuickDraw 3D. Shareware ¥1,000. Users must read Japanese manual and operate Japanese menu commands, but the software itself is so simple that the operation is not difficult for non-Japanese users.

[Ireland] Upgraded and Updated Games from Titan Software
Titan Software, lead by Richard Bannister, has released and updated his game softwares:

[Japan] Train Simulator "Meitetsu" to be Released 4/17. Meitetsu Runs Special Trains on 4/11
Train simulator games are very popular in Japan and various publishers ships their own series of such games. One of them, Ongakukan*/PONYCANYON* of "Train Simulator*" series are the originator of such games and ships unique installments in cooperation with various railway companies.
Latest installment of Train Simulator series "Nagoya Railroad Vol.1*" is to be released on 4/17, and Nagoya Railroad* (called "Meitetsu") runs special event trains "Train Simulator-go*" on 4/11, preceding the release. The trains to run for the event are a beautifully formed express "Panoramacars" and a classic uniquely formed train "Imomushi" both running Nagoya and its environs just same as in the game. It is attractive and useful one who is interested in actual trains in the game. Also attractive is the talk show of Minoru Mukaiya, the author of Train Simulator series who is musician and also train enthusiast known as the pioneer of today's train game boom in Japan. The charge for the event is expensive ¥9,800 but a special present and Nagoya Railroad Vol.1 software will be presented to each attendee. [USA] Followup: Realmz Updated Again to 5.0.2
In 3/16 news, I posted information about Realmz 5.0. But Fantasoft immediately updated it to version 5.0.2 just followed on the heels of version 5.0.1. The changes in 5.0.1 are as following:

-- Fixed a bug on adding prestige points.
-- Fixed functionality of Reveal Friends button.
-- Fixed a problem with the Identify buttons.
-- Re-registration should now work properly.
-- Places some limitations onto the number of spells that can be cast per round by various castes.

No information about 5.0.2 is given yet. Go to Realmz Version History page for more information. Full version size is 10.3 MB. One who already has version 5.0 or 5.0.1 may download 5.0.2 updater (150 KB), so doesn't have to download the full version.
It is common that minor updates are rushing right after major one. Please keep track of Realmz + Scenario Files page for latest version at download.

[USA] STRiKE Posted Yet Two Other New Scenarios for Strange Loadouts
STRiKE Software has Liberation site for some F/A-18 Korea scenarios and posted two other new scenarios "08xAMRAAM" and "10xAim9". These are very simple scenario provides strange loadouts such as 8 AMRAAMs and 10 Sidewinders but they are not available from within the internal mission editor. File size of 08xAMRAAM is 5 KB, 10xAim9 is 5 KB. No password is needed (may be freeware).

Fantasoft has released Realmz 5.0. Realmz is a well-known fantasy role playing game conbines 2D top view and 3D maze view. Version 5.0 adds many features such as following ones:

-- Allows to create new characters starting as high as level 30.
-- All new characters start with basic equipment
-- "Prestige" points based on performance in battles.
-- "Attacks Per Round" parameter for each race and caste.

STRiKE Software posted "410SilPass", a preview version of an upcoming F/A-18 Korea add-on scenario to be posted onto their Liberation site. 410SilPass, to be called F/A-18 Korea version of SiLENT PASS, is a set of 6 missions that is for offline practice in Silent First Pass ROE (a standard rule of engagement for F/A-18 net play). File size is 24 KB. Freeware but only for registered STRiKE Software users (needs password to extract the archive).
Also posted is "SilPass Missions" (27 KB) but sorry, I have no idea whether/how it is different from 410SilPass.

Masahiro Fukushima has his unique OpenDoc Documents for entertainment in his site "The Bit Brick Room" (English pages available) and also is working on several Part Editors. He recently posted development version 0.1d of mFBall. mFBall is an OpenDoc part editor also called "Electronic Ping Pong Part Editor" where a ball bounces around the inside of the part interacting with other embedded parts: The ball bounces off embedded parts and "smashes" some parts. File size is 234 KB*. Requires PowerPC, OpenDoc 1.2. Freeware but use at your own risk. The part editor itself is English version and English document is available.
He posted several OpenDoc Documents using mFBall in the Compound Document Gallery page*:

He proved that OpenDoc is entertaining and attractive enough as a construction kit. Many people think that Apple abandoned that marvelous invention in the name of "maintenance mode". But the attraction of OpenDoc itself is not affected by what Apple said and did, is it?

[USA] Segasoft's SHOCKWAVE LAB Posted New Puzzle Game "DOUBLE MAZE"
Segasoft, known as publisher of OBSIDIAN, has SHOCKWAVE LAB page in their site and has released a new puzzle game named DOUBLE MAZE from there. DOUBLE MAZE is a Shockwave-based puzzle game where player must solve two mazes in same time by moving two balls simultaneously. 12 stages.
The other games in the SHOCKWAVE LAB are a quiz game "WHAT'S THE CONNECTION?", an arcade game "Zombie Dinner", and a gamble game featuring THE SPACE BAR's characters "BIBBLE BONK". There also is Obsidian Puzzle page where visitor can play a bunch of OBSIDIAN-related puzzles. Shockwave plug-in is required to play any game.
[USA] Shadow Warrior 3Dfx Patch Posted
A 3Dfx patch for 3D shooting game Shadow Warrior was posted onto MacSoft FTP site although any announcement is given from nether Westlake Interactive nor MacSoft. The updater generates "Shadow Warrior 3Dfx" application from the full registered version. Also included is the "SW 3Dfx Net Startup" application for net games. RAM 32 MB is required to play the 3Dfx version. The 3Dfx updater size is 993 KB. Download ReadMe file for more information.

Red Storm Entertainment posted Tom Clancy's Politika Patch 1.1. Politika is a board/card style political simulation game set in near-future Russia where player as leader of a faction vies against other factions to get the largest political influence. It features accurate political modeling by Tom Clancy and Internet head-to-head play through Java-based technology called InVerse. Patch 1.1 improved bunch of screen interface elements, AI routine speed, and fixed file saving/loading problem. Updater for full version is 2.3 MB, for Multi-Player only version is 2.3 MB.
Red Storm Entertainment is also holding Clancy Cup, a ranking tournament of Politika. To enter Clancy Cup, player must connect to the server with Multiplayer version of Politika and make score there. Synergy has started a new web-based game "The Atenige: BooBoo Crash!" in their YBR Land*, the site dedicated for "Yellow Brick Road" (YBR) kid's adventure game series. The Atenige is an arcade racing game where player must crashes into rivals' machine to win (OK for children, no cruel scenes). Also humorous characters from YBR shown there are funny. If you get good result, you can be ranked on the high score list. Also available in the site are a soccer game Kick & Goal, a bulletin board system to communicate with YBR characters, and the new character contest which are also open to non-YBR user. MacSoft has opened a product page of Top Gun: Fire at Will! Top Gun is a flight shooting game based on the popular film of the same title featuring photorealistic graphics as well as instant action play. Although there is no announcement of the release yet, MacSoft started taking orders. Also Interact! CD listed the game in their What's New list. Laminar Research posted some excellent screen shots of upcoming version 4.0 of professional-level flight simulator X-Plane. Version 4.0 will feature texture mapped 3D graphics and support of OpenGL 3D acceleration cards such as ATI's. A public beta version of its plane designing module Plane-Maker 4.0 Beta-4 is already available. Beta file size 3.0 MB, PowerPC required, full retail version available this summer.
Now available is a CD-ROM includes latest version 3.67 for $149 including free upgrade through version 4.x.

[France] Totally Renewal Version of GADGET to be Released
Cryo Interactive releases the renewal version of well-known GADGET titled "GADGET-Past as Future-". GADGET is an interactive adventure by Japanese digital creator Haruhiko Shono. The renewal version features more detailed graphics, virtual scenes using QuickTime VR, and richer movie scenes. It is to be called "Complete Version" of the work that is finally realized using the machine power of PowerPC. Requires PowerPC (Power Macintosh 6100/7100/8100 NOT recommended), System 7.5 or later, RAM 16 MB or larger, CD-ROM 4x or faster. French version is available in March. No date is given for English version.

Cryo Interactive announced that they are working on upcoming EGYPT 1156 B.C.: TOMB OF THE PHARAOH. EGYPT 1156 B.C. is a graphic adventure game set in ancient Egypt featuring accurate and detailed omnidirectional 3D graphics using Omni-3D technology that was adopted also to their previous "Versailles 1685", as well as realistic conversation scenes using motion capture and Omni-Sync voice synchronization technology. Westlake Interactive has finally released 1.08.5 patch for Quake. The patch is a significant update with 30 new fixes and additions including preferences-related bug fixes, improved screen mode switching, support to aliases of .pak/.cfg files, RAVE-related improvement, non-ATI RAVE cards support, etc. Patch size 471 KB. Maverick Software, lead by Mark Adams who is well-known as Quake and Unreal porter, has released their new WordTile. WordTile is a puzzle game to be called "word matching Shang Hai" where player takes tiles with alphabet in the manner like Shang Hai and compose any one word. It may be difficult for non-English natives but should be useful for learning English words. It recognizes any usual English words including, for example, "QUAKE" and "UNREAL" but not "XMEN". StarPlay Productions posted AV Macintosh patches for Crystal Caliburn and Loony Labyrinth. They fix problems related to freezes or crashes on AV Macs (maybe Quadra AVs) when inserting coins or playing these pinball games. The patches update Crystal Caliburn 1.03 to 1.04, Loony Labyrinth 1.02 to 1.03 but non-AV Mac users must NOT use these patches for performance. [Japan] Bandai Digital Entertainment Dissolved, Transferred to Parent Company
Bandai Digital Entertainment* is to be dissolved according to the board of directors held on 2/27. This decision may be the result of its recent huge loss and charge. Even if rumored is discontinuation of Pippin and other softwares, Bandai Digital Entertainment themselves announced that their business are transferred to their parent company BANDAI:
Customers don't have to worry about this since BANDAI development division starts "New Property Project Group" that continues to deal in Pippin, Atmark Channel Club, softwares, user support, and other related operations from March 2.
Thus customers can continue to receive user support and provider service of Atmark Channel Club from Bandai as was before.

According to Eiko Harada, President of Apple Japan, Pippin is still supported in Japan for special use in offices and kiosks in spite of the weak sales in consumer market. Also their Macintosh game softwares, especially Gundam-related ones, are popular among Japanese Mac users so that the games always high-ranked in sales.
[Japan] Titanic Japanese Version to be Released 3/20
Bandai Digital Entertainment* and Media Kaito releases Japanese version of Titanic on 3/20. Titanic is a graphic adventure game set in the ship Titanic where player must avoid conspiracy by Nazis and Communists. It also features realistically reproduced well-known ship Titanic that can be collectors' item.
Although Bandai Digital Entertainment is to be dissolved according to the board of directors*, development and support of the game will be transferred to BANDAI development division.
